In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Arunachal Pradesh have arrested a 45-year-old woman and confiscated a substantial quantity of heroin valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh. The operation, conducted in the Namsai district, underscores the authorities' ongoing efforts to combat narcotics-related crimes in the region.
Targeted Operation Leads to Arrest and Seizure
Acting on a credible tip-off received on Wednesday regarding illicit drug activities, a specialized police team, led by Namsai sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kengo Dirchi, initiated a meticulously planned operation. Following all due legal protocols, the team carried out a targeted raid in the Trolley Line area of Namsai on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Sarana Yoya, was taken into custody during the operation. Based on information provided by her, the police conducted an extensive search of the vicinity. This led to the discovery of 133 grams of heroin, cleverly concealed in 11 plastic soap cases and hidden within nearby bushes. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is around Rs 7 lakh, highlighting the scale of the illicit operation.
Legal Procedures and Further Investigation
Upon recovery, the narcotics were carefully weighed, marked, sealed, and seized in the presence of independent witnesses, as confirmed by police officials. This adherence to procedural norms ensures the integrity of the evidence for legal proceedings.
A formal case has been registered at the Namsai Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. SDPO Kengo Dirchi stated that further investigation is actively underway to uncover potential links and networks involved in this trafficking case.
Police Reiterate Zero-Tolerance Stance on Drugs
In light of this arrest, the Arunachal Pradesh police have reiterated their unwavering zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. Authorities have made a public appeal, urging citizens to come forward with any information that could assist in curbing narcotics-related activities. This collaborative approach aims to enhance community safety and disrupt the supply chain of illegal drugs in the state.
The successful operation in Namsai serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking in frontier regions. It also reflects the dedication of local law enforcement in tackling such issues head-on, with a focus on maintaining law and order in strategically important areas like Arunachal Pradesh.
