28-Year-Old Woman Attacked with Acid by In-Laws in Ludhiana Property Dispute
Woman attacked with acid by father-in-law in Ludhiana

A young woman in Ludhiana has suffered severe burn injuries after a horrific acid attack allegedly orchestrated by her own family members. The incident, rooted in a bitter property dispute, has sent shockwaves through the local community and highlighted the extreme lengths to which conflicts over assets can escalate.

The Horrific Attack in the Family Home

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Gudia, was alone on the first floor of her house in the Naulakkha Garden Colony of division number 3. Her husband, Akshit Jain, was away at work. According to her police statement, her father-in-law, Sanjay Jain, and his brother, Ranjneesh Jain, who reside on the ground floor of the same house, entered the kitchen and threw acid on her.

The attack was not a sudden outburst but appears to be the violent culmination of an ongoing feud. Gudia revealed to the authorities that the accused had been pressuring her to vacate the house. The dispute over the property had been simmering for months, ultimately leading to this brutal assault.

Police Action and Past Confrontations

Based on Gudia's detailed statement, the Division Number 3 police station swiftly registered a formal case. Inspector Jagdeep Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO), confirmed that the case has been filed under serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The charges include:

  • Voluntarily causing hurt
  • Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid
  • Criminal act by several persons in furtherance of common intention

In a critical detail, the inspector noted that the assailants used diluted acid in the attack. Gudia is currently undergoing treatment for her burn injuries at Ludhiana Civil Hospital.

This is not the first time police intervention was required in this family conflict. Inspector Singh disclosed that approximately seven months ago, a violent fight had broken out between the parties. At that time, the police had to detain Gudia's in-laws under preventive measures to keep the peace. The current attack suggests the underlying tensions were never resolved.

Accused on the Run and Community Outrage

Following the acid attack, the accused men, Sanjay Jain and Ranjneesh Jain, fled the scene. As of now, they are absconding, and a search is underway to apprehend them. The brazen nature of the crime, committed within the victim's home by her relatives, has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about women's safety in domestic settings.

The case underscores a disturbing trend where property and financial disputes within families turn violently criminal. The use of acid, a substance that causes lifelong physical and psychological trauma, marks an especially heinous dimension to this conflict. The Ludhiana police's investigation will now focus on tracking down the accused and building a strong legal case against them while the victim fights for recovery in the hospital.
