Woman Fatally Attacked by Husband in Gir Somnath District
A tragic incident of domestic violence has shaken the Simar Wadi area in Una taluka of Gir Somnath district, Gujarat. On Sunday afternoon, a 48-year-old woman, identified as Laxmi Dabhi, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband following a heated domestic dispute.
Details of the Fatal Assault
The horrific attack occurred around noon while Laxmi was preparing food in the kitchen of her home. According to police reports, her husband, Jaga Dabhi, allegedly struck her 4-5 times on the head with an iron rod during an argument that escalated violently.
The couple's 30-year-old son, Dinesh Dabhi, was away from home when tensions flared. Upon returning, he witnessed his father running out of the kitchen. Hearing commotion inside, Dinesh rushed in to discover his mother lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
Background of the Marital Conflict
Family members present at the house informed police that the couple had been engaged in a serious argument prior to the attack. During this confrontation, Jaga allegedly accused his wife of infidelity, which triggered his violent outburst.
In his formal complaint lodged at the Navabandar Marine police station, Dinesh revealed that his father had been harbouring suspicions about his mother's character for approximately 10-12 days. These unfounded suspicions had led to frequent quarrels between the couple, despite attempts by other family members to mediate and resolve the disputes peacefully.
Medical Response and Police Action
Laxmi was immediately rushed to the government hospital for emergency treatment. However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival, confirming the severity of her head injuries. Her body was subsequently transferred to Una government hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination to document the exact cause and nature of her fatal injuries.
Local police have registered a formal offence of murder under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Law enforcement authorities have launched an intensive manhunt to locate and apprehend the accused husband, who fled the scene immediately after committing the alleged crime. The investigation is ongoing as police gather additional evidence and statements from witnesses.
This tragic incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes escalating into violence, underscoring the urgent need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms and greater awareness about domestic abuse prevention in communities across Gujarat.
