Lucknow: A woman and her daughter from Hardoi allegedly attempted self-immolation outside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday, accusing local police of inaction in a theft and assault case. Alert personnel averted the tragedy by snatching a petrol bottle from them moments before they could set themselves ablaze.
The women, residents of Sandila, were taken to Hazratganj police station and questioned by senior officers. The daughter alleged that her uncle stole valuables from their house and assaulted family members when confronted. Despite repeated complaints over the past month, she claimed, Sandila police failed to register an FIR.
In a written plea to senior officials, including the chief minister and DGP, they sought security and action, alleging pressure from influential persons. Police said the matter has been taken seriously, with Hardoi police asked to verify the claims. Both women are safe, officials added.
