A tragic incident occurred in Kasaragod district where a 24-year-old woman died after allegedly consuming acid at her husband's residence. The deceased has been identified as Fathimath Sufaida, a resident of Cherladukkam. The incident took place on Saturday night at Panalam, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Vidyanagar police station.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Sufaida consumed acid in front of her in-laws. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to her injuries shortly after midnight. Her family members have alleged that she was subjected to both mental and physical harassment by her husband and mother-in-law. They further claimed that the harassment was primarily over dowry demands.
Altercation Before the Incident
Family sources revealed that there was a heated altercation at her husband's house earlier on Saturday. Sufaida had reportedly called her brother to the house and was preparing to return to her parental home when her husband, identified as Adil, told her that if she left, she should not come back. He also allegedly snatched her mobile phone and smashed it on the floor.
Police Action
The Vidyanagar Station House Officer (SHO) confirmed that Adil has been taken into custody. The police are investigating the case and have registered a complaint based on the statements of the deceased's family. Further legal proceedings are underway.
