Woman dies as speeding e-SUV hits two-wheelers in Vile Parle

A 41-year-old woman lost her life and two others sustained injuries when a speeding electric SUV collided with their two-wheelers on the station road in Vile Parle (East) on Wednesday. The incident occurred between 4:30 pm and 5 pm near Monghibai Market.

Arrest and Charges

The Vile Parle police have arrested the SUV driver, Vilas Gavhankar (44), and booked him under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 106 (death due to negligence) and 281 (rash and negligent driving). Gavhankar, employed as a driver for a south Mumbai resident, was allegedly speeding, causing him to lose control and hit one parked and two moving two-wheelers.

Investigation Underway

Police have sent Gavhankar's blood sample for testing to determine if he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He claimed he lost control of the vehicle. Authorities are seeking an expert opinion to verify his statement.

Victims and Injuries

The deceased has been identified as Kinjal Shah, a resident of Vile Parle (East). The injured, Nirmala Dojiya and Premji Dojiya, are receiving treatment at Gawde Hospital.
