Patna Woman Crushed to Death by Municipal Garbage Truck

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young woman in Patna on Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Heena Raj from Hanuman Nagar, was run over by a garbage truck belonging to the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC). The incident occurred near Jakkhanpur Mor around 10 am, sending shockwaves through the area.

Sequence of Events: A Fatal Fall and a Crushing Blow

According to police reports, Heena Raj was on her way to work in Mithapur, riding pillion on a Rapido bike. For reasons yet to be fully determined, she lost her balance and fell from the moving two-wheeler. In a horrifying turn of events, she fell directly into the path of an approaching PMC garbage truck. The truck could not stop in time and ran over her, resulting in her instant death at the spot.

Traffic Inspector Neeraj from the Bypass area confirmed that the victim was wearing a helmet, but it proved insufficient to save her from the impact of the heavy vehicle. The police have seized the involved truck and identified the Rapido bike driver through booking details as part of their investigation.

Absconding Driver and Investigation Hurdles

A critical development in the case is that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident and remains absconding. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anil Kumar pointed out a significant challenge for the investigators: the absence of CCTV coverage in the area where the incident took place. This lack of visual evidence has hampered efforts to identify and locate the driver.

In a statement, PMC Public Relations Officer Priya Saurabh clarified the operational details. She stated that the truck was not directly owned or operated by the municipal corporation. Instead, it was rented from an external contracting agency. At the time of the accident, the vehicle was en route to the Ramchak Bairiya landfill site after collecting garbage from the New Capital Circle.

Contractual Details and Family's Anguish

The contracting agency in question is owned by Satyendra Kumar, who holds a three-year contract with the PMC that is set to expire this year. The agency supplies the corporation with ten trucks and drivers. Satyendra Kumar stated that his agency is attempting to identify the driver to cooperate fully with the police probe.

The grieving family of Heena Raj has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified truck driver. Following the incident, her body was sent to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for a postmortem examination. After the necessary legal procedures were completed, the remains were handed over to the family for the last rites.

As of now, the Patna Municipal Corporation has not announced any compensation or financial assistance for the deceased woman's family. The police investigation continues as authorities work to trace the absconding driver and piece together the final moments leading to the fatal accident.
