A tragic incident occurred in Gureh village under the rural Kotwali area of Banda district on Sunday night, where a 75-year-old woman lost her life after her son allegedly attacked her while intoxicated. The deceased has been identified as Ramrati, wife of Munwa. Police reported that the accused, Pappu alias Radhacharan, fled the scene but was later apprehended from the village with the assistance of local residents.
Details of the Incident
According to the account provided by the family, Ramrati was sitting outside her house when Pappu arrived home in an inebriated state. He began demanding money from his sister, Gudiya, to purchase more alcohol. When his demand was not met, he allegedly started misbehaving and scuffling with her. Witnessing the quarrel, Ramrati intervened to counsel her son.
Gudiya alleged that Pappu, angered by his mother’s intervention, grabbed her and smashed her head-first onto the ground. The impact was so severe that Ramrati died on the spot.
Police Response and Investigation
At the time of the incident, Munwa, the husband of the deceased, was away from home. Upon his return, the children informed him about the tragic event, and villagers subsequently alerted the police. The rural Kotwali in-charge, Chandraprakash Tiwari, arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough investigation and questioning. A police team along with forensic experts gathered evidence from the spot, and the body was taken into custody.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Palash Bansal stated that a murder FIR has been registered against the accused son based on the complaint filed by the father, Munwa. “The police have nabbed the accused Pappu from the village with the help of the villagers. He is being questioned,” SP Bansal added.
