A 23-year-old woman suffering from mental illness allegedly killed her mother and brother with an iron rod at their home in Bhaisali Jamalpur village, also known as Gadhpur, under the Kanth police station area of Moradabad district on Wednesday evening, police said.
The bodies of Munni Devi, in her late 40s, and her son Arjun, 28, were found in the courtyard of their thatched house by a villager, after which the police were alerted.
Police said the woman had been battling mental illness for nearly two years and had become increasingly aggressive in recent days. She was restrained with ropes by her family but managed to break free around 6 pm. She then allegedly attacked both victims, repeatedly striking them on the head and face, leading to their death on the spot.
SP (Rural) Kunwar Akash Singh said, “Police took the accused woman into custody and sent both bodies for post-mortem. An FIR has been registered under BNS Section 103 (murder) on the complaint of another brother, Rajiv.”
Family members, however, have claimed she is being falsely implicated and pointed to a possible property dispute. SP Singh said this angle is also being examined.
