Gorakhpur Woman Murdered in Barabanki: Lover, 4 Sisters Arrested
Woman murdered at lover's house in Barabanki, 5 arrested

Police in Uttar Pradesh have registered a murder case and arrested five individuals, including a man and his four sisters, after a 30-year-old woman was found brutally killed at her lover's residence in Barabanki district. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the communities of Gorakhpur and Barabanki, involves a complex web of relationships and conflicting accounts of the crime.

Victim's Journey Ends in Tragedy

Mamta (30), a resident of the Gorakhnath area in Gorakhpur, was discovered dead at her lover's house in Shahabpur village, under the limits of the Masouli police station, on Tuesday morning. According to authorities, she had travelled from Gorakhpur to Barabanki on Monday night to meet Sandeep Yadav, an engineer with whom she had been in a relationship for about two years.

Investigations reveal that both Mamta, daughter of Rajkishore, and Sandeep had married other people separately around six months ago. Despite their respective marriages, Mamta reportedly insisted on continuing her relationship and living with Sandeep. Her journey to his family home in Shahabpur village culminated in a gruesome end, as she was allegedly hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police Action and Conflicting Narratives

Acting on a written complaint filed by the victim's brother, Abhishek Yadav—who works as an engineer in Gurugram—the Masouli police swiftly registered a case on Thursday. The FIR names seven individuals: Mamta's alleged lover Sandeep Yadav, his father Kamlesh, mother Santosh Kumari, and his four sisters—Sudha, Nidhi, Meera, and Kanchan.

Police teams arrested Sandeep and his four sisters on Thursday. All five arrested accused were produced before a court the same day. Teams have been formed to locate and apprehend Sandeep's parents, who are currently absconding.

Superintendent of police Arpit Vijayvargiya stated that interrogation has yielded starkly conflicting versions of the event. Sandeep has accused his own parents and sisters of killing Mamta. Conversely, the four arrested sisters have claimed that it was their parents who murdered Mamta using an axe. Each sister also stated she was in a different part of the house when the incident occurred, according to the police.

Family's Agonizing Wait and Final Rites

After the murder was discovered on Tuesday, police waited throughout the day for the arrival of Mamta's family members, but no one came forward initially. Her brother, Abhishek Yadav, reached Barabanki on Wednesday night. He gathered details from the postmortem house and subsequently submitted the formal complaint that led to the FIR.

Following the postmortem examination on Wednesday, Abhishek took his sister's body back to their hometown of Gorakhpur for the last rites, bringing a tragic close to the search for the young woman.

The case highlights the severe consequences of complex interpersonal relationships and has prompted a rigorous investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police as they piece together the contradictory statements to uncover the truth behind the horrific crime.
