A 47-year-old woman, Rani Devi, was shot in the leg by two masked men riding a motorcycle while she was walking near her home with her daughter in Aligarh’s Niwari area on Saturday, according to police. The incident occurred in the evening when the woman, an employee at a local factory, was returning home. The assailants, their faces covered, fired a single shot at her before speeding away on their motorcycle.

The shooting was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity, which showed the sequence of events. The footage triggered panic among local residents, who rushed to the spot and alerted the police. Rani Devi was immediately taken to the district hospital, where she is undergoing treatment for the gunshot wound. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Police Action and Investigation
Following the incident, the victim’s husband filed a complaint at the Rorawar police station, naming five individuals. The police registered a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder) and launched an investigation. Circle officer Sarvam Singh confirmed that one of the named accused, Abuzar, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. “An FIR has been lodged and an investigation has been launched. Further action will be based on evidence collected,” Singh said.
