Delhi Police Nab Gang That Employed Woman as Decoy for Robberies in Mehrauli
In a startling case of organized crime in the national capital, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly used as bait to lure unsuspecting men into dimly lit lanes of south Delhi's Mehrauli area, where her armed associates would then rob them at knifepoint. The criminal operation was brought to an abrupt halt when Delhi Police arrested all three members of the gang on April 13, following swift action during routine patrols.
Incident Unfolds During Police Patrolling on Badarpur-Mehrauli Road
The case came to light when a police team was conducting routine surveillance along the Badarpur-Mehrauli Road. Officers spotted a man, identified as Baidyanath Kamat, near the main gate of a DDA park. Upon inquiry, Kamat revealed he had just been robbed of his mobile phone, bag, and cash by a woman and two men who fled towards Mehrauli.
According to the detailed complaint filed by Kamat, the woman first signaled to him near the wall of Indian Park on MB Road. When he followed her, two men suddenly appeared, brandishing a knife, threatened him, and swiftly robbed him before escaping with the woman. This modus operandi highlighted a premeditated strategy to exploit vulnerable situations in secluded areas.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests and Recovery of Stolen Items
DCP (south) Anant Mittal commended the police team for their prompt response, stating that they acted swiftly to apprehend the woman and her aides—Rahul (29) and Sameer (22). The arrests were made without delay, preventing further incidents. Police also recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime and the stolen cash from the possession of the accused, providing crucial evidence for the case.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance in public spaces, especially in areas with poor lighting or limited visibility. Authorities have urged citizens to report suspicious activities immediately and avoid following strangers to isolated locations. The arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat street crimes and ensure safety in urban neighborhoods.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if the gang was involved in similar robberies in the region, with police examining past complaints and patterns. The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of proactive patrolling in deterring criminal activities and protecting public welfare.
