PRAYAGRAJ: A video showing a woman waving a country-made pistol during a wedding ceremony has led Pratapgarh police to register an FIR against her. The incident took place during a marriage function on May 7, prompting authorities to take action over the alleged reckless display of firearms.
Police Investigation Details
DSP (Raniganj) V P Sahni said, “After a video in which a woman was seen waving an illegal firearm went viral on social media on Monday, police investigated the matter and found that the incident took place in village Akodia, where a marriage party from Phulpur (Prayagraj) had come to Mandhata on May 7.” He added, “The woman who allegedly waved the illegal firearm was from the groom’s side.”
The DSP further said, “Pratapgarh police have been coordinating with their Phulpur (Prayagraj) counterparts to ascertain the identity of the woman and ensure strict action against her.” He also said, “An FIR has been lodged against an unknown woman at Mandhata police station under relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act, and a probe is underway to ascertain the source of the firearm and its link to the woman.”
First Such Case Involving a Woman
Officials said this appears to be the first such case in which a woman was seen dancing at a wedding while waving a country-made pistol. The incident has raised concerns about the easy availability of illegal firearms and the casual attitude towards gun safety during celebrations.
Police are now working to trace the origin of the weapon and identify all individuals involved in the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
