Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday arrested a worker for allegedly killing a 75-year-old woman in her house in Kaljewadi the previous day.
A Dighi police team led by senior police inspector Pramod Wagh arrested Bhagwan Patil (48) from Gangapur in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. “The suspect revealed that he robbed the woman’s gold bangle before slitting her throat,” Wagh said.
The police identified the deceased as Shakuntala Gilbile. The murder came to light on Tuesday evening when the sister-in-law of the deceased found her lying unconscious at home. She also found that her throat had been slit.
“We found that one of the bangles of the deceased was missing. We suspected that someone known to the woman was involved. We found that Patil, who worked at the woman’s farm, was also missing. We traced him to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district,” Wagh said.
“During interrogation, Patil admitted to killing the woman for her jewellery,” the officer added.
