Wrong-Side Driving on NH-48 Claims Life, Injures Two in Vadodara
A tragic accident on National Highway 48 near Vadodara resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man and left two of his family members injured after a motorcycle collided with a car driving on the wrong side. The incident occurred on Tuesday near Jambua village, highlighting ongoing safety concerns on this busy corridor.
Fatal Collision Details and Victim Information
The deceased, identified as Maqsood Ansari, was riding the motorcycle with his wife Naseema, aged 33, and their 11-year-old son Anish as pillion riders. According to police reports, the car suddenly took a wrong-side turn, giving Ansari no time to brake. The impact of the collision was so severe that it pushed the car aside, with Ansari suffering fatal head injuries and dying on the spot. Naseema and Anish were rushed to a hospital for medical treatment and are currently recovering.
The family was returning to their home in Ankleshwar from Ahmedabad when the accident unfolded. Police have officially registered a case against the car driver, with investigations ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the violation.
Local Complaints and Highway Safety Issues
Residents in the area voiced significant grievances following the accident. They alleged that the ambulance arrived late at the scene, delaying critical medical assistance for the victims. Furthermore, locals pointed out that wrong-side driving is a common occurrence on this stretch of NH-48, as many motorists opt to avoid longer U-turns, compromising safety for convenience.
NH-48 has gained notoriety as an accident-prone highway in recent years, serving as a crucial link between southern and northern regions of India. Police officials noted that bypass junctions along the route witness frequent mishaps, often due to commuters and locals attempting to cross the highway at these points without proper precautions.
Traffic Police Initiatives and Broader Implications
In response to the rising number of accidents, traffic police have been actively conducting awareness drives on safe driving practices along NH-48. These efforts aim to educate motorists about the dangers of violations like wrong-side driving and to promote adherence to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.
This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced enforcement and public cooperation to improve road safety on one of the country's busiest highways. As authorities continue their probe, the community mourns the loss of Maqsood Ansari and hopes for stricter measures to curb reckless driving behaviors.
