A major fire erupted in a quarter at Jagjit Nagar flats near Hero Bakery Chowk in Ludhiana on Tuesday, trapping a woman and her three-year-old son inside. A quick-thinking neighbour, Rahul, risked his own life to break the locked gate and rescue them, preventing a potential tragedy.
Fire Breaks Out in Residential Quarter
The blaze started around 1 pm in a warehouse located within the residential complex. Fire brigade officer Karamjit Singh stated that the control room received a call about the fire at approximately 1 pm, and fire brigade vehicles were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing the quarter where the woman and child were present.
According to sources, the woman’s hair and arms sustained burn injuries, while the child was reportedly safe. After the rescue, the injured woman was rushed to Deepak Hospital in a private car, where she is currently undergoing treatment under medical supervision.
Brave Neighbor Breaks Lock to Save Lives
Rahul, a local youth, first noticed smoke emanating from the quarter. Within seconds, the smoke intensified into a fierce fire. Along with a friend, he rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, they found the main gate locked from outside, with the woman and her son screaming for help from inside.
Without hesitation, Rahul picked up an iron pan lying nearby and struck the lock repeatedly with full force. After several blows, he managed to break the lock and pull the trapped victims to safety. The entire rescue occurred within minutes, thanks to his swift action.
Fire Brigade Brings Blaze Under Control
Fire brigade officer Karamjit Singh confirmed that multiple fire tenders were deployed to the site. After a prolonged struggle, the fire was brought under control. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation. No other injuries were reported.
The incident highlights the importance of community alertness and quick response in emergencies. Residents of the area praised Rahul’s courage, calling him a true hero for risking his life to save his neighbours.
