Youth Beaten to Death in Varanasi, Family Protests

Varanasi: A 25-year-old youth was allegedly beaten to death by unknown miscreants in Basantpur (Chakdulla) area under Sindhora police station area in Varanasi on Tuesday night.

Incident Details

The deceased, Rohit Rajbhar, a resident of Chandwak area in Jaunpur, was returning from a wedding ceremony when he was attacked. According to police, no specific motive has been identified in the killing.

Family Protests

Angered by the killing, the family staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday calling for a thorough investigation in the case. ADCP, Gomti Zone, Nripendra, said that based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged and the body was sent for post-mortem. The postmortem was conducted by a panel of doctors under videography, he said, adding that the family members and others, who had blocked the road, ended their protest after it was assured that no guilty will be spared in this episode.

Brother's Statement

The deceased’s brother Kishan Rajbhar said that his brother was targeted in a planned way. The caste leaders gathered during the protest also tried to give caste colour to the killing, but timely intervention of police foiled it.

The police have assured strict action against the perpetrators. Further investigation is underway.
