Youth Drowns in Chennai Lake Fleeing Police

A 20-year-old man drowned in Retteri Lake near Rajamangalam on Monday while attempting to flee from police after a complaint regarding alcohol consumption and ganja use in a residential area. The incident took place in Retteri Lake, and the man's body was retrieved by fire and rescue personnel. It was subsequently sent to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Complaint and Police Response

According to police reports, residents alerted the Rajamangalam police around 3:45 PM on June 16 about four youths consuming alcohol and smoking ganja on 10th Street, Sivasakthi Nagar. A police patrol team promptly arrived at the scene, causing the four youths to flee. While three managed to escape, one youth, identified as Gerald David, 20, jumped into Retteri Lake in an attempt to evade arrest.

Recovery of the Body

When Gerald David failed to resurface, the police alerted the fire and rescue services department. Personnel conducted a search operation and recovered the body from the lake at approximately 6:40 PM. The victim, Gerald David Johnson, was a daily wage laborer residing in Rajamangalam near Villivakkam.
