Youth killed in Mohali dispute over birthday party remarks

A young man was killed, and two others were injured following a minor dispute in Balongi's Adarsh Colony in Mohali late on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek (22). The injured youths, Prashant and Jyotish, are undergoing treatment. One of them is admitted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh.

Incident Details

According to Deepak Kumar, brother of deceased Abhishek, and Nitish, brother of injured youth Jyotish, the incident took place during a birthday celebration organised for Prashant on Wednesday night. They alleged that the accused, Manish, used to abuse Prashant's father and made offensive remarks against him in front of guests at the party.

Following this, Abhishek and Jyotish reportedly decided to speak to Manish regarding the matter. When they questioned Manish, an argument broke out. During the altercation, Manish allegedly attacked Prashant. When Abhishek intervened to rescue him, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked Abhishek on the neck.

Injuries and Aftermath

Abhishek suffered a deep neck injury and collapsed on the spot. He died shortly afterwards due to excessive bleeding. The accused also allegedly attacked Prashant and Jyotish. One of the injured sustained injuries on the arm, while the other suffered injuries on the leg. The injured youths were initially admitted to a Chandigarh hospital. Prashant was discharged on Thursday afternoon after treatment, while Jyotish continues to undergo treatment in PGI.

Police Response

After carrying out the attack, the accused fled from the spot. SHO, Balongi police station, inspector Periwinkle Singh Grewal, confirmed that a youth was killed with a sharp-edged weapon and two others were injured in the incident. He said that a case has been registered and police teams are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
