The Tumakuru police have arrested a YouTuber for allegedly posting a defamatory video against Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara. The arrest was made on July 3, 2026, after the police's social media monitoring cell detected the objectionable content.
How the Video Was Detected
According to police officials, the social media monitoring cell received a link to the video on July 1. Upon opening it, they found that it contained derogatory remarks and false allegations against Minister Parameshwara. The cell immediately registered a complaint and launched an investigation.
The accused, identified as a local YouTuber, was traced and taken into custody. Police said the video was uploaded with the intent to tarnish the minister's reputation.
Legal Action and Charges
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. The police are also examining if the accused had any prior history of posting inflammatory content.
“We are taking strict action against those who misuse social media platforms to spread defamation and false information,” said a senior police officer from Tumakuru.
Minister’s Response
Minister G Parameshwara has not yet commented on the arrest. However, sources close to him indicated that he supports the police action, emphasizing the need to curb online defamation.
This incident highlights the growing concern over the misuse of digital platforms for character assassination. The Karnataka police have been actively monitoring social media for such offenses, with a dedicated cell in place since 2024.
