Daylight Robbery and Firing Shake Zirakpur's Aerocity
Serious concerns about law and order resurfaced in Zirakpur on Friday morning. A brazen daylight robbery and firing incident occurred in the Aerocity area, targeting a senior bank official.
Bank Manager Targeted in Morning Attack
The victim, Sudhanshu Kumar, serves as chief manager with the State Bank of India. He resides in Block H of Aerocity. According to his police complaint, the incident happened around 9am as he was leaving for office.
Kumar was driving his car when he reached a slip road near his house. Two masked youths on a Bullet motorcycle intercepted his vehicle. Dense fog conditions initially made him think the motorcycle had collided with his car.
Violent Confrontation and Gold Theft
The assailants gestured for Kumar to roll down his window. When he complied, one attacker grabbed his hand and tried to snatch the gold bracelet and chain he was wearing.
When Kumar resisted, the criminals smashed the driver's side window using a heavy object. One of them then produced a pistol and threatened Kumar at gunpoint.
The duo forcibly took his gold bracelet and chain. They continued pressuring him to remove his rings as well.
Escape Attempt Leads to Gunfire
Fearing for his life, Sudhanshu Kumar managed to start his car and attempted to flee the spot. As the car sped away, one attacker allegedly fired at it.
The bullet struck the window, shattering it completely. Miraculously, the projectile narrowly missed the victim. The accused then fled the scene on their motorcycle with the stolen ornaments.
Police Investigation Underway
The total value of stolen items was estimated at approximately Rs 4 lakh. Kumar immediately went to Zirakpur police station and filed a formal complaint.
Investigating officer ASI Labh Singh confirmed receiving the complaint. He stated that the victim's claim about the firing was being verified.
"Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined," Singh said. "The accused will be arrested soon."
Community Concerns and Police Response
Following the incident, panic spread among Aerocity residents and those in adjoining areas. Locals expressed deep concern about the rise in crime occurring in broad daylight.
Police authorities said they had intensified patrolling and checking in the area. Their immediate goal is to trace the assailants responsible for this alarming incident.
The Zirakpur daylight robbery has raised serious questions about security measures in the rapidly developing Aerocity region. Residents are now demanding stronger police presence and better surveillance systems.
