Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Zomato Delivery Executive in Faridabad
A food delivery executive working with Zomato has died two days after being crushed by a speeding Mercedes in a hit-and-run accident in Faridabad's Sector 15 area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the victim, Anand Raj Bind, critically injured before he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday.
Details of the Fatal Accident
Anand Raj Bind, who had been working with Zomato for the past couple of months, was apparently on his way to deliver an order around 2 am when the tragedy struck. He was riding his motorcycle from the Sector 15 intersection towards Mathura Road when a Mercedes bearing registration number DL1CAB9919, registered to a private company, struck his bike from behind near the fire brigade office.
The impact was severe, leaving Bind critically injured at the scene. According to police reports, the Mercedes driver fled on foot immediately after the collision, abandoning the vehicle with all its tyres jammed from the crash.
Family's Tragic Discovery and Medical Efforts
Anand's brother, Shivam Kumar, who was at home approximately 2 kilometers away, received a call from a passerby and rushed to the accident spot. He found his brother lying unconscious on the road. Shivam immediately took Bind to Metro Hospital in Faridabad, from where he was referred to Max Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Anand Raj Bind succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday. The body has been sent for autopsy, though the report is still awaited according to police officials.
Background of the Victim
Anand Raj Bind had moved to Faridabad just four months ago from Mirzapur in search of work opportunities. He was living in rented accommodation in Bhatola near Chandila Chowk with his three brothers, all of whom work as delivery partners for various platforms. Their father remains a farmer in their native village, highlighting the family's economic migration for better prospects.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
A police team initially reached the scene following a PCR call, finding both the damaged motorcycle (HR55AU3022) and the abandoned Mercedes on the road. Inspector Ranvir Singh of Central police station confirmed that the vehicle has been taken into police possession.
"We have taken the vehicle into possession. The driver will be held soon," Inspector Singh stated, adding that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the absconding driver.
Police revealed that the Mercedes driver was allegedly on his way to pick someone up from IGI Airport in Delhi at the time of the accident, suggesting the vehicle was traveling at considerable speed.
Legal Charges Filed
A case has been registered against the absconding driver at Central Faridabad police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 281: Rash driving
- Section 106: Causing death by negligence
- Section 125(A): Endangering human life
- Section 324(4): Mischief
The incident highlights the dangers faced by delivery executives who work late hours and navigate city roads, often with inadequate safety measures and protection. It also raises questions about road safety enforcement and accountability for hit-and-run cases in urban areas.
