Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Zomato Delivery Executive in Faridabad
A food delivery executive working with Zomato has died following a devastating hit-and-run accident involving a speeding Mercedes in Faridabad. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Sector 15, with the victim succumbing to his injuries two days later on Monday.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Anand Raj Bind, who had been employed with Zomato for several months, was reportedly on duty delivering an order when the tragedy struck. Around 2 am, while riding his motorcycle from the Sector 15 intersection towards Mathura Road, a Mercedes bearing registration number DL1CAB9919 struck his bike from behind near the fire brigade office. The vehicle, registered to a private company, was traveling at high speed, causing critical injuries to Bind.
The impact was severe, leaving Bind unconscious at the scene. His brother, Shivam Kumar, who was at home approximately 2 kilometers away, received a call from a passerby and rushed to the location. Finding his brother in critical condition, Kumar immediately transported Bind to Metro Hospital in Faridabad. Due to the severity of his injuries, Bind was subsequently referred to Max Hospital in Delhi, where he tragically passed away during treatment on Monday.
Background of the Victim and Family
Anand Raj Bind had relocated to Faridabad just four months prior from Mirzapur in search of employment opportunities. He resided in rented accommodation in Bhatola near Chandila Chowk along with his three brothers, all of whom work as delivery partners for various platforms. Their father remains in their native village, working as a farmer.
The family's livelihood has been severely impacted by this incident, highlighting the risks faced by gig economy workers in urban areas.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Police authorities responded to the scene following a PCR call, discovering both the damaged motorcycle (HR55AU3022) and the abandoned Mercedes on the road. Inspector Ranvir Singh of the Central police station provided details, stating that the Mercedes driver fled on foot after the collision, leaving the vehicle behind with all its tyres jammed.
"We have taken the vehicle into possession. The driver will be held soon," Inspector Singh assured, noting that the body has been sent for autopsy, though the report is still awaited.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver was allegedly en route to pick someone up from IGI Airport in Delhi at the time of the accident. A case has been officially registered against the absconding driver at the Central Faridabad police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 281: Rash driving
- Section 106: Causing death by negligence
- Section 125(A): Endangering human life
- Section 324(4): Mischief
The police investigation continues as authorities work to apprehend the fleeing driver and bring justice for Anand Raj Bind and his grieving family.
