Tragedy Strikes Delhi Slum Near Rithala Metro

A devastating fire erupted in a slum cluster near the Rithala Metro Station in the national capital on Friday night, resulting in one fatality and leaving a child injured. Officials from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) confirmed the tragic incident.

Massive Firefighting Operation Through the Night

According to the DFS, the blaze broke out in the Bengali Basti, an area situated between the Rithala Metro Station and the Delhi Jal Board premises. Firefighting and cooling operations were conducted throughout the night to bring the intense flames under control.

Fire officer SK Dua informed news agency ANI that a total of 29 fire tenders were deployed to combat the fire, which was officially categorized as of "Medium category" due to its intensity. After several hours of a relentless dousing operation, the fire was finally brought under control.

Casualties and Ongoing Assessment

In an official statement, the Delhi Fire Service reported, "One body has been recovered by the firefighters from the fire that broke out in the slums near Rithala Metro Station. One injured is undergoing treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital. More details awaited."

The injured child was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. Authorities are currently on-site, assessing the extensive damage caused by the fire. The precise cause of the incident that led to this tragedy is yet to be determined, and further investigations are ongoing.
