Mumbai: A tragic accident on Marine Drive early Monday claimed the lives of three people, including a 19-year-old biker, his 18-year-old pillion rider, and a 66-year-old pedestrian. The incident occurred around 5:40 am at the Parsi Gymkhana junction signal on N S Road.
Details of the Accident
According to police, the biker was allegedly speeding and knocked down the pedestrian, who was crossing the road during a morning walk. The impact threw the pedestrian into the air. The senior citizen's body was found more than 100 feet from the accident site. The female pillion rider fell approximately 30 feet away and was discovered under a parked car, while the biker's body was found near a parked two-wheeler.
Victims Identified
The biker was identified as Krishna Desai, a resident of Mulund. The pillion rider was Muskan Shaikh from Geeta Nagar in Cuffe Parade. The pedestrian was Kishore Lamane, a retired accountant from Girgaum. All three were rushed to GT Hospital with the help of a bystander but were declared dead on arrival.
Lamane, who had left home for his regular morning walk, is survived by his wife and a son who lives in Mira Road. Desai, who had passed Class 10, had recently purchased the bike on April 5. His father, Uday Desai, a shipping and logistics businessman, said he had spoken to his son via WhatsApp video call at 11:30 pm on Sunday, which was his birthday. Krishna told his father he was in Mulund and needed fuel money, so Uday sent Rs 200 via GPay. Uday had instructed Krishna to return early as they had a trip planned for the morning.
Shaikh's father, Imam Ali, a taxi driver, arrived at the hospital with relatives. Muskan, the eldest of three siblings, had passed Class 10 and recently started working at a private company. Her aunt, Muskan Khan, said Shaikh had come home around 4:30 am and asked her daughter to accompany her for a ride. When her daughter declined, Shaikh left alone. The aunt expressed regret, saying, "Had I gone with her, this might not have happened."
Police Investigation
Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident. They found Shaikh's damaged phone at the scene but could not locate her scooter. An FIR is being registered against Krishna Desai for causing death by negligence, rash driving, and dangerous driving under relevant sections of the BNS Act and Motor Vehicle Act. A police officer stated, "We are recording statements and trying to find more information, including where the two were headed."
