193 Winning Candidates in Chennai Are Crorepatis: ADR

CHENNAI: As many as 193 winning candidates out of 233 have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). While 77 (72%) out of 107 winning candidates from TVK are crorepatis, the percentage is higher among DMK and AIADMK winning candidates.

Party-wise Crorepati Analysis

Among the 59 winning candidates of DMK, 57 (97%) are crorepatis. Similarly, 44 (94%) out of 47 winning candidates of AIADMK have assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. All newly elected candidates of Congress, PMK, IUML, CPI, BJP, AMMK, and DMDK are crorepatis.

Asset Distribution

While 35% of candidates declared assets worth Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore, 16% have assets ranging from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore, and 32% have assets worth Rs 10 crore and above.

Average Assets Surge

The average assets of winning candidates have increased from Rs 12 crore in 2021 to Rs 48 crore in 2026. Among parties, AIADMK’s winning candidates have the highest average of Rs 152.89 crore, followed by TVK candidates with Rs 27 crore and DMK candidates with Rs 14 crore. Congress candidates have an average of Rs 17 crore, PMK MLAs have Rs 22 crore, and IUML candidates have Rs 4.4 crore. CPI candidates average Rs 4 crore, VCK candidates have Rs 89 lakh, and CPM candidates have the lowest average of Rs 68 lakh.
