79-year-old woman murdered in Karur, jewellery missing

A 79-year-old woman living alone was found murdered at her residence near Velliyanai in Karur district on Monday. Her jewellery and mobile phone were reported missing.

Details of the Incident

The deceased has been identified as P Thayammal, a resident of Uppidamangalam area. Her body was discovered with her hands and legs tied, and her mouth stuffed with cloth. Police confirmed that she was strangled to death.

According to sources, Thayammal had been living alone for the past five years. She was known to step out of her house every day around 5 am. On Monday morning, when she did not come out at her usual time, neighbours grew suspicious and went to check on her. They found her lying inside the house in a bound condition and alerted the police.

Investigation and Suspicions

Inquiries revealed that the earrings, nose ring, and a keypad mobile phone she was wearing were missing, indicating that the murder may have been committed for gain. Police from Velliyanai station rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation. The body was sent for postmortem examination.

The police have not yet arrested any suspects. Thayammal is survived by her daughter, who resides in Dindigul district. Her husband Perumal and son Rajagopal had predeceased her.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the crime.
