AAP MP Urges PM Modi to Take Stern Action Against Kapil Mishra Over Doctored Video
Malvinder Singh Kang, an Aam Aadmi Party MP from Punjab's Anandpur Sahib, has written a strong letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He demands the sternest possible action against BJP leader Kapil Mishra. The controversy centers on a video that allegedly shows former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi making derogatory remarks about Sikh Gurus.
Allegations of Fabricated Content and Communal Incitement
In his letter dated January 17, Kang accuses Mishra of circulating a doctored video. He claims this video falsely portrays Atishi speaking disrespectfully about Sikh religious figures. Kang asserts that forensic reports from both the Punjab and Delhi Forensic Science Laboratories confirm the video's fabrication. According to these reports, Atishi never uttered the words attributed to her in the clip.
Kang describes the incident as more than a political mistake. He calls it deliberate blasphemy designed to incite communal disharmony. The MP argues that Mishra weaponized Sikh religious sentiments for political gain. This action, Kang states, represents an unforgivable violation of the Sikh Gurus' legacy.
Timing During Sacred Commemoration
The MP highlights the sensitive timing of the video's circulation. It appeared while the Sikh community was observing the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Kang expresses profound anguish over this development. He reminds Prime Minister Modi of his previous expressions of faith in Sikh teachings and his government's efforts to protect Sikh religious sentiments.
Kang references the safe return of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan as evidence of this sensitivity. He argues that invoking the Gurus' names through lies and manipulation for political mileage contradicts these values.
Call for Decisive Measures
The AAP MP outlines specific actions he expects from the Prime Minister. He urges the sternest possible action against Kapil Mishra. This includes removing Mishra from all positions of authority and issuing a clear public denunciation of his actions.
Kang believes such decisive steps would strengthen leadership rather than weaken it. He states they would send an unambiguous message that the sanctity of the Gurus remains non-negotiable. No political ambition should stand above Dharma, according to his letter.
Kang concludes by emphasizing that the Sikh community seeks justice and moral clarity, not favor. He expresses hope that Prime Minister Modi's intervention will reaffirm that the ideals for which the Gurus sacrificed their lives continue to be protected in modern India.
Contrasting Claims from Delhi Assembly Speaker
Meanwhile, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta presented a different perspective on Saturday. He stated that examination found the video of Atishi allegedly making derogatory remarks was not doctored. Gupta announced plans to order a CBI probe into the matter.
The controversy originated during the Winter Session of the Assembly on January 6. BJP members alleged that Atishi made objectionable remarks about a Sikh Guru during discussions about a state government programme. This programme marked the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra uploaded a video of Atishi's statement in the House. Following this, the Delhi Assembly sent the video for forensic examination. The conflicting claims from different authorities have created a complex political situation.
