Jalandhar: Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers on Saturday held protests outside Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh's residence and Lovely Professional University, where Ashok Mittal is founding chancellor.
Outside Harbhajan's residence in Chhotti Barandari area, AAP workers painted ‘gadar' on the boundary wall and the gate of his house. Outside LPU, the protest was led by Punjab State Cooperative Agriculture Development Bank chairman Pawan Tinu, while several party workers from Phagwara were also there. They painted ‘gadar' on the gate of the university.
The protests came amid allegations that Harbhajan Singh and Ashok Mittal had not supported the AAP candidate in the recent Rajya Sabha elections. The party workers accused them of betraying the party's trust. The police were present at both locations to maintain law and order. No arrests were reported.
Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian cricketer, was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 with AAP's support. Ashok Mittal, the LPU founder, is also an AAP Rajya Sabha MP. The protestors demanded an explanation for their alleged defiance of the party whip.
