AAP's Sanjay Singh Slams BJP Over Ghat Demolition

Aam Aadmi Party's foot march against unemployment and social injustice reached Varanasi on Sunday. The party's Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh made strong statements during the event.

FIR Filed Against Protestor, Not Demolishers

Sanjay Singh revealed that an FIR has been lodged against him for protesting the demolition at Manikarnika Ghat. He expressed frustration that authorities targeted him instead of those responsible for the destruction.

"Not against those who demolished Manikarnika Ghat, an FIR is being filed against me, who protested against it," Singh stated clearly.

Attack on Hindu Faith Alleged

The AAP leader accused both the central and state BJP governments of attacking Hindu faith and sentiments. He emphasized the historical and mythological significance of Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi.

"BJP government at Centre and in state are attacking Hindu faith and sentiments by demolishing the historic and mythological Manikarnika Ghat of Kashi," Singh declared.

Historical Significance Destroyed

Singh explained that the ghat holds special importance for Hindus. It was rebuilt by Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century and is associated with the belief of salvation.

He lamented that this sacred site has been spoiled through recent demolition activities. The damage extends beyond the ghat itself to associated structures.

Destruction Under Modi's Watch

Singh pointed out the irony of destruction happening in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's own parliamentary constituency. He contrasted current events with historical invasions.

"This is not the era of foreign invaders or Mughal rule, yet destruction is happening in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency under his own regime," he observed.

Widespread Damage Reported

The demolition affected multiple important structures according to Singh's allegations:

  • Mythological temples associated with the ghat
  • Maa Ganga's temple
  • Shivalay temple
  • Ahilyabai Holkar's statue

Dictatorship Accusation

Sanjay Singh framed the situation as evidence of BJP's authoritarian tendencies. He argued that targeting protesters instead of addressing the actual demolition demonstrates poor governance.

"This is a living example of BJP's dictatorship," he concluded, connecting the incident to broader political concerns.

The AAP's march through Varanasi continues to highlight issues of unemployment and social injustice while drawing attention to local controversies like the ghat demolition.
