Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday demanded that the call records of all individuals employed in the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya be investigated. Speaking to reporters, Yadav accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of placing electoral considerations above religious values.
Call for Transparency
Yadav stated that a thorough examination of call records is necessary to ensure transparency and to uncover any potential irregularities. He questioned the BJP's motives, suggesting that the party might be using the temple construction for political gain rather than genuine religious devotion.
"The BJP has always prioritized politics over religion. They are using the Ram temple as a tool to win elections," Yadav said. He emphasized that the call records would reveal the true intentions behind the hiring and management of the temple workforce.
Political Context
The demand comes amid ongoing political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP and Samajwadi Party are key rivals. The Ram temple, a long-standing symbol of Hindu faith, has been a central issue in Indian politics for decades. The Supreme Court of India settled the land dispute in 2019, paving the way for construction.
Yadav's remarks have sparked debate, with BJP leaders dismissing the demand as a political stunt. "Akhilesh Yadav is trying to divert attention from his party's failures. The temple construction is proceeding smoothly and transparently," said a BJP spokesperson.
Impact on Ayodhya
The Ram temple project is expected to boost tourism and the local economy in Ayodhya. However, Yadav's call for a probe could raise questions about the project's administration. The Samajwadi Party has previously raised concerns about the allocation of funds and the selection of workers for the temple.
According to sources, over 1,000 workers are currently employed at the construction site. The temple is scheduled for completion by 2027, with the first phase expected to be inaugurated in early 2025.
