SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP of Divisive 'CMP Formula' Targeting Women Voters
In a sharp critique from Lucknow, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deploying what he termed the "CMP formula"—standing for create mistrust and fear—to fragment the women population for electoral advantages. Yadav asserted that this strategy is designed to sow division within society, particularly among women, by instilling apprehension about other groups.
Delimitation and Women's Reservation Bills Aimed at Depriving PDA Women, Says Yadav
Akhilesh Yadav highlighted that the delimitation bill and the women's reservation amendment bill were specifically crafted to disenfranchise women from the PDA (Pichrde, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak) community, which constitutes approximately 95% of the total women population in India. He emphasized that these legislative moves were intended to marginalize these groups, despite their overwhelming majority.
"BJP's CMF formula will not work as people have started seeing through their designs. This is the reason why it has started losing now," Yadav declared during a press conference at the SP headquarters. He pointed to the failure of the delimitation bill to pass through Parliament as evidence that the government has lost public trust, with majority confidence shifting toward the opposition.
Women's Bill an Attempt to Divide, Says SP Leader
Yadav elaborated that the women's reservation bill was a deliberate attempt by the BJP to split the women populace across the country, but this effort backfired significantly. "BJP tries to create division in society by telling a section of populace that you are under threat from the other group. The idea is to make one section vote for them out of fear and the divide helps them electorally," he explained.
He criticized the BJP for having a feudal mindset regarding women, accusing the party of wanting to use television serial politics to create real-life divisions among women. Yadav stressed that the bill would have unjustly deprived PDA women of their rightful representation, given their substantial demographic share.
SP Supports Women's Reservation but Opposes Hasty Implementation
Clarifying the SP's stance, Akhilesh Yadav stated that his party has never been against women's reservation in principle. "We supported the Women's Reservation Bill 2023 and it has now taken the shape of an Act. What was tabled during this special session of Parliament was delimitation bill," he noted.
He argued that the government could announce reservation based on the current total strength of MPs, which is 543, without needing delimitation. "We are in favour of giving women their due. We only want that women from the backwards and Muslims community are not left out," Yadav emphasized, underscoring the need for inclusive policies that protect marginalized groups.
BJP's Moral Policing and Defeat of Ill Intentions
In an apparent reference to instances of moral policing often associated with the BJP and its saffron brigade, Yadav accused the party of denying women the right to choose their attire and lifestyle. "They go around parks and restaurants trying to forcibly heap customs and culture they want to. Bill not being able to make through Parliament is BJP's defeat and defeat of its ill intentions," the SP chief asserted, linking the legislative failure to broader societal issues.
SP Chief Gifts Copper Utensils to Harassed Tea Stall Owner
In a related display of support, Akhilesh Yadav presented Aryan Yadav, a tea stall owner from Fatehpur, before the media. Aryan's stall was sealed by authorities a day after he posted a video of the SP chief stopping by for tea during a recent district visit. The sealing was reportedly due to the use of aluminium utensils, which violated local regulations.
Yadav gifted Aryan a set of copper utensils and expressed hope that action would be taken against those responsible for harassing the small business owner. This incident highlighted the SP's commitment to standing with common citizens against perceived bureaucratic overreach.
