The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Monday announced three key appointments in India's police research and training institutions. Alok Mittal, a 1993-batch Haryana cadre IPS officer, has been appointed as the new head of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in New Delhi.
Alok Mittal to lead BPR&D
Mittal, who currently serves in the Haryana cadre, will take charge of the BPR&D, an organisation responsible for police research, development, and training. The appointment was notified by the Central Government on Monday, as per an official statement. The BPR&D plays a crucial role in modernising police forces and recommending policy reforms.
Amit Garg appointed NCRB Director
In a separate move, Amit Garg, an IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been named Director of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Garg is currently serving as head of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana. The NCRB is the nodal agency for compiling and analysing crime statistics in India.

The ACC also appointed Sujeet Pandey, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, as the new head of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
