BJP leader and former MP Shwait Malik on Thursday alleged that anti-India forces are exploiting the controversy surrounding the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer film 'Satluj' to fuel discord in Punjab. He emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party's stance on religious harmony and social unity in the state has always been rooted in Hindu-Sikh brotherhood.
Malik's Statement on Hindu-Sikh Bond
Speaking to the media, Malik said, “Hindu-Sikh brotherhood is a bond of flesh and blood and serves as India’s shield.” He recalled the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur, who gave his life opposing the forced conversion of Hindus by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. “At that time, it was a tradition among many Hindu families to dedicate their first son to the Sikh faith, and we can never forget this legacy,” Malik added.
BJP's Position on the Film Ban
Malik's comments come after senior BJP leaders in Punjab, including state BJP chief Kewal Dhillon, urged the Centre to review the ban on 'Satluj'. However, Malik claimed that certain radical anti-India outfits are using the film as a tool to spread discord. He asserted that the BJP has consistently supported social harmony in Punjab.
Concerns Over Religious Conversions
Malik also referenced recent remarks by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who expressed concern over illegal religious conversions in Punjab. “Amit Shah said that strict laws would be enacted against conversions if the BJP forms the government,” Malik noted.
