Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Greenlights 65 Major Proposals Worth Rs 39,437 Crore
The Andhra Pradesh cabinet, in a significant meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday, gave its official approval to a total of 65 diverse proposals. This comprehensive clearance paves the way for the grounding of projects valued at an impressive Rs 39,437 crore, which had previously been sanctioned by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB). The wide-ranging approvals span critical sectors including information technology, electronics, semiconductors, clean energy, manufacturing, and tourism, marking a substantial push for industrial and technological development across the state.
Major Focus on IT, Electronics, and Semiconductor Sectors
The cabinet meeting placed a strong emphasis on bolstering the state's technological infrastructure. Multiple high-value projects in the IT and electronics sectors received the green light across key districts such as Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Chittoor, Sri Sathya Sai, and Amaravati. The approved initiatives include the establishment of advanced AI data centres, expansive IT parks, a strategic cable landing station, and crucial semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) and fabrication units.
Additionally, the cabinet cleared proposals for lithium-ion battery materials production and various electronics manufacturing facilities. The single largest project approved was a monumental semiconductor OSAT and fabrication unit proposed by RRP Electronics Ltd in Sri Sathya Sai district, with an investment worth Rs 10,239 crore. This move is expected to significantly enhance India's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
Advancements in Quantum Computing and Industrial Projects
In a forward-looking decision, the cabinet also approved several pioneering projects under the AP Quantum Computing Policy within the Amaravati Quantum Valley. These include an innovation hub and a High-Performance Computing-quantum facility for the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a quantum-safe infrastructure hub by PQStation, and a dedicated research & development and manufacturing facility by Quantum AI Global.
On the industrial front, the cabinet accorded approvals to major proposals in the industries and commerce sector. Notable companies receiving clearance include ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, Shyam Metallics and Energy, and Metro Decorative Pvt Ltd. These projects encompass steel expansion, Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) and furniture manufacturing, and various downstream steel projects, aiming to boost manufacturing output and create employment opportunities.
Push for Renewable Energy and Policy Frameworks
Aligning with global sustainability goals, the cabinet cleared several renewable energy projects under the state's Integrated Clean Energy Policy. These projects involve solar, wind, hybrid energy systems, biomass, and green hydrogen initiatives, strategically located across Kurnool, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, Nellore, and various coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The cabinet also established a crucial policy framework for granting deemed distribution licence status to eligible strategic data centres, subject to approval from the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC). This step is designed to streamline power supply for critical digital infrastructure.
Land Allotments, Regulatory Amendments, and Social Initiatives
Revenue-related decisions formed another key part of the cabinet's agenda. The meeting sanctioned large-scale government land allotments intended for industrial parks, power projects, tourism developments, and educational institutions. Furthermore, amendments to existing land and assignment regulations were approved to facilitate smoother project implementation.
In the education sector, the cabinet approved ordinances to amend the Private Universities Act and the Higher Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission Act. These amendments are aimed at restructuring regulatory mechanisms and expediting the fee fixation process for private higher education institutions.
Demonstrating a commitment to social welfare, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 1.28 crore from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to provide financial assistance to the families of victims of a tragic road accident in Markapuram district. Additionally, it cleared the establishment of a Disease Monitoring and Decision-Making Centre under the state health department, enhancing public health infrastructure and response capabilities.
