Jhunjhunu: Anil Kumar Sharma, a soldier in the Indian Army who tragically lost his life during a special training exercise in Uttarakhand, was cremated with full state honours on Monday at his native village Ramseesar in Sikar district. The atmosphere turned deeply emotional as Sharma's mortal remains arrived at his home, prompting an outpouring of grief from family and community members.
Shaheed Samman Yatra
In a heartfelt tribute, an eight-kilometre-long 'Shaheed Samman Yatra' was organized in his honour, drawing hundreds of mourners who walked alongside the procession to pay their last respects. The yatra passed through several villages, with locals lining the route to salute the fallen hero.
Details of the Incident
Anil Kumar was undergoing special training alongside his colleagues at Raiwala Camp in Uttarakhand on Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm. During the exercise, he was required to jump from a height of 18 feet into the water. However, he failed to resurface after the jump. Fellow trainees immediately launched a search but were unable to locate him. Divers were subsequently called in, who retrieved his body from the water.
Final Rites and Tributes
During the cremation ceremony, an Army Naib Subedar presented the national flag to Anil's younger brother, Manoj Kumar, symbolizing the nation's gratitude for his sacrifice. When Sharma's body reached his home on Monday morning, his mother Sampu Devi, wife Sarita Devi, two sisters, and other women in the family fainted upon seeing the body. The wails of the women moved everyone present to tears.
Several dignitaries attended the funeral to pay their floral tributes and offer condolences, including MLA Hakam Ali, former municipal council president Madhusudan Bhinda, former district council member Mahavir Bhojdesar, Congress state spokesperson RC Chaudhary, former Panchayat Samiti member Jitendrasingh Rathore, along with other officials, public representatives, and community members.
The entire village and surrounding areas came to a standstill as the last rites were performed, with the nation mourning the loss of a brave soldier who gave his life in the line of duty.
