Assam BJP Leader Highlights UCC's Positive Impact on Women

Dhubri: Assam state BJP spokesperson Bonendra Kumar Mushahary, while briefing on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at the Dhubri district BJP headquarters on Tuesday, stated that the law passed by the present NDA government on May 28 in the assembly would have a positive effect on women in the state.

Supreme Court's Repeated Urging for UCC

Mushahary highlighted that the Supreme Court had delivered verdicts on women's issues and had urged the central government as many as three times to bring in the UCC — in 1985, 2003, and 1995 — to protect women's rights, particularly those belonging to the minority community.

Impact on Women from Minority Communities

The BJP leader emphasized that the implementation of the UCC would ensure equal rights for women across all communities, addressing long-standing disparities in personal laws. He argued that the code would provide a uniform legal framework for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, thereby safeguarding the interests of women who have often been disadvantaged under existing religious laws.

Mushahary further noted that the Assam government's decision aligns with the constitutional vision of a uniform civil code, as enshrined in Article 44 of the Constitution. He urged all sections of society to support the move, calling it a progressive step toward gender justice and social harmony.
