A tragic incident occurred in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, where a BDS student lost his life after drowning in the Baner River. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Rohan Kumar, was returning from a trekking expedition with his friends when the mishap took place near the Dada Siba area.
Details of the Incident
According to the police, Rohan, a third-year BDS student at a local dental college, had gone for a trek with a group of friends on Sunday. While crossing the Baner River, he slipped and fell into the water. Despite the efforts of his friends and local residents to rescue him, he was swept away by the strong current.
The police were alerted, and a rescue operation was launched. After a search of several hours, the body was recovered from the river downstream. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigations are underway.
Police Statement
Station House Officer (SHO) of the local police station, Inspector Rajesh Sharma, stated, "We received a call about a person drowning in the Baner River. Our team immediately reached the spot and initiated a search. Unfortunately, the student had already drowned by then. We are recording the statements of his friends to ascertain the exact sequence of events."

This is not the first such incident in the region. The Baner River, especially during the monsoon season, witnesses strong currents, leading to several drowning cases every year. Authorities have repeatedly warned trekkers and locals to avoid crossing rivers during heavy flow.
The tragic death of the young BDS student has sent shockwaves through the local community and the dental college. Friends and faculty members expressed their grief and paid tribute to him.
