Heavy rainfall in Bengaluru on Wednesday led to severe waterlogging on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), causing significant traffic disruptions for commuters. The downpour, which began in the early morning hours, inundated several key stretches of the ORR, particularly near Marathahalli, Bellandur, and Silk Board junction. Vehicles were seen moving at a snail's pace, with many stuck for hours in the rising waters.
Impact on Daily Commute
The flooding brought the city's traffic to a near standstill, with reports of long queues stretching for kilometers. Commuters took to social media to express their frustration, sharing images and videos of waterlogged roads and stranded vehicles. Many office-goers and students were forced to take alternate routes or wait for the water to recede. The Bengaluru Traffic Police advised people to avoid the ORR and use alternative roads like NICE Road or the elevated expressway.
Authorities Respond
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) deployed teams to pump out water from the affected areas. However, the sheer volume of rainfall overwhelmed the drainage systems, leading to prolonged waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in the coming days, raising concerns about further disruptions. BBMP officials have urged residents to stay indoors unless necessary and to report waterlogging incidents through their helpline.

This is not the first time the ORR has faced such issues. The stretch is notorious for flooding during heavy rains, despite multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving drainage.
