Repeated Digging Worsens Road Conditions
Multiple rounds of utility work by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) have led to frequent digging along this critical corridor. Inadequate and inconsistent restoration efforts have left the road in a severely damaged state, with uneven patches and unsafe conditions for all vehicles, particularly two-wheelers.
Budget Shortfall Limits Repair Efforts
Officials have revealed a significant funding gap that hampers comprehensive solutions. While Rs 12 crore has been allocated for repairs, the actual requirement exceeds Rs 60 crore. This shortfall restricts work to basic, temporary fixes rather than the complete rebuilding needed for a lasting resolution to the road's deteriorating condition.
Hazardous Travel Conditions Persist
Thick layers of dust and exposed basalt stones create daily hazards for commuters. These conditions not only increase accident risks but also make travel uncomfortable and dangerous. The section near IIM-Bangalore has been identified as particularly problematic, with half-dug roads and poor visibility compounding the safety concerns.
Traffic Congestion Intensifies Commuter Woes
Heavy vehicle flow from JP Nagar, Hulimavu, BTM Layout, and Electronics City converges onto Bannerghatta Road, significantly worsening traffic congestion. This merging of multiple routes slows movement to a crawl during peak hours, extending commute times and testing the patience of daily travelers.
Infrastructure Deficiencies Compound Problems
Residents report that inadequate drainage systems and poor road surface quality exacerbate the situation. Waterlogging during rains further damages the already compromised roadway, while open drains and poor visibility create serious safety risks for pedestrians navigating the area.
Authorities Seek Solutions Amid Funding Challenges
While authorities have plans for comprehensive rebuilding that includes underground utilities and proper footpaths, they continue to explore additional funding sources.
