BEST employees’ unions have officially called off their strike in Mumbai, paving the way for the resumption of bus services across the city. The decision came after negotiations with the management led to the acceptance of several key demands.
Strike Ends After Agreement
The strike, which had disrupted public transport for thousands of commuters, was withdrawn late on 21 June 2026. Union leader Ahir confirmed that major demands of the employees were met, allowing services to restart. “Some of the employees’ major demands have also been accepted,” Ahir stated, adding that BEST buses would soon return to the city’s roads.
Impact on Commuters
The strike had caused significant inconvenience to Mumbai’s daily commuters, who rely heavily on BEST buses for affordable travel. With the strike called off, normal operations are expected to resume gradually, restoring connectivity across the metropolitan region.
Details of the Settlement
While specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed, union sources indicated that issues related to wages, working conditions, and benefits were addressed. The resolution marks a positive step for labor relations within the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking.
