Maharashtra Minister Dada Bhuse Withdraws Defamation Suit Against Sanjay Raut
In a significant development in Nashik, Maharashtra Education Minister Dada Bhuse withdrew a defamation suit filed against Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday. The suit was related to Raut's earlier allegations concerning the Girna cooperative sugar factory in Malegaon.
Court Hearing and Joint Statement
Both Bhuse and Raut were present at the Malegaon court for the hearing. Following the proceedings, they addressed reporters together. Bhuse stated that he decided to withdraw the suit after Raut admitted in court that he had been misled by incorrect information.
Bhuse explained, "Today, Raut acknowledged in court that he was misled. The funds collected for the factory were actually Rs 1.7 crore, not Rs 178 crore as he had claimed. Moreover, the entire amount has been accounted for."
Background of the Controversy
The issue originated in 2023 when a news report alleged misappropriation of funds raised from farmers and others to restart the Girna cooperative sugar factory. This led to public outrage among farmers and residents of Malegaon.
Bhuse added, "After that news report, the farmers and Malegaon residents felt offended and urged Raut to retract his statement. When that did not happen, the defamation suit was filed. Today, Raut apologized to the farmers, so we have withdrawn the application."
Raut's Admission and Political Implications
During the joint address, Raut referred to Bhuse as the "guardian minister" and attributed the misinformation to Advay Hiray. He said, "I was misled on the facts by Hiray. Since Hiray raised the issue with incorrect facts, I decided to withdraw and let him fight his own battle."
Raut also noted that Hiray is now affiliated with the BJP, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's slogan, ‘Na Khaunga Na Khane Dunga’ (I will neither take nor allow anyone to take bribes). He concluded, "Let's see what happens now," hinting at potential political ramifications.
This withdrawal marks a resolution to a contentious legal and political dispute, highlighting the importance of factual accuracy in public discourse and the impact of misinformation on community sentiments.
