The Danapur cantonment in Patna witnessed a solemn and spirited ceremony on Thursday as the Bihar Regiment Centre (BRC) celebrated the Raising Day of its illustrious 8th and 12th Battalions. The event was marked by deep patriotic fervour and a strong sense of regimental pride.
A Legacy of Valour and Sacrifice
The ceremony, held at the BRC ground, saw a gathering of officers, soldiers, and personnel to honour the rich history and immense sacrifices of the two battalions. The 8th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment was originally raised on January 1, 1965, under the command of Major Balbir Singh. The 12th Battalion came into existence later, on January 1, 1976, led by Lt Colonel Kulwant Singh Mann.
Addressing the gathering, BRC Commandant Brigadier Rakesh Kumar Bohra highlighted the pivotal role both units have played since their inception. He stated that the battalions have been instrumental in safeguarding the nation's unity and integrity, demonstrating unwavering courage during both war and peace times.
Homage to the Fallen Heroes
The core of the Raising Day observance was paying tribute to the brave jawans of the 8th and 12th Battalions who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Brigadier Bohra lauded the exceptional courage, devotion, and valour displayed by the soldiers and officers throughout the regiments' history.
In a poignant moment, the Commandant offered wreaths at the war memorial to honour these fallen heroes. The act served as a powerful reminder of the price paid for the nation's security and the enduring legacy of the battalions.
Reaffirming Commitment to the Nation
The event was attended by several senior army officials and personnel who shared memories and recounted the glorious achievements of the two battalions. The collective reminiscence strengthened the bonds of camaraderie and service.
A BRC official emphasized that the Raising Day celebration was not just a look back at history but a reaffirmation of the regiment's steadfast commitment. The ceremony underscored the ongoing dedication to uphold the highest traditions of the Indian Army and to serve the nation with honour and distinction.
