Bilaspur Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Punjab Drug Supplier

Bilaspur police have arrested a 21-year-old interstate drug supplier from Punjab who was allegedly supplying chitta in the district through an organised supply chain network. The accused, Jashanpreet Singh (21), a resident of SBS Nagar, Punjab, was taken into custody on July 2 following a coordinated operation.

Arrests Lead to Uncovering of Network

The network was unearthed on June 29 when police arrested Mohit Kumar (34), a resident of Mandi, near Swarghat with approximately 14 grams of chitta. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered and an investigation was launched.

Abhishek Dhiman, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bilaspur, stated that during the investigation, police thoroughly examined digital, technical and financial evidence and found that the contraband had been supplied from Punjab. It was also discovered that another individual, Nishant Sharma (33), also from Mandi, was involved in the network and was arrested on July 1.

Confessions Lead to Punjab Arrest

During interrogation, both Mohit Kumar and Nishant Sharma confessed that they had been procuring chitta from Jashanpreet Singh, who, along with other individuals, was running a supply chain-based drug trafficking network. Following this revelation, a police team was dispatched to Punjab and Jashanpreet Singh was arrested on July 2 from SBS Nagar.

SP Dhiman added that further investigation is ongoing and more individuals associated with this network are being identified and will be arrested soon. The police are also working to trace the source of the drugs and dismantle the entire supply chain.

Impact and Ongoing Investigation

The arrest marks a significant step in curbing the influx of synthetic drugs like chitta into Himachal Pradesh. The police have emphasized the role of digital evidence in cracking the case, highlighting the use of technical and financial trails to link the accused. The investigation continues as authorities aim to bring all involved to justice under the NDPS Act.
