Amravati: The Amravati Local Authorities Constituency is voting for a single seat in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, with Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Pravin Pote-Patil aiming for a third consecutive term. Pote is relying on the numerical strength of the Mahayuti alliance. The BJP and its allies collectively possess the required votes to secure his victory, positioning him as the front-runner in this contest involving 453 voters, including 227 women.
Congress Candidate Hospitalized
Congress candidate Harshjeet Deshmukh has been hospitalized and has been absent from campaigning since June 5. This has left the 120 Congress voters in a dilemma over whom to support, blunting the party's influence in the local bodies seat. "At Amravati Municipal Corporation (AMC), we are considering staying neutral, but this is not a final decision," said Vilas Ingole, Congress group leader in AMC.
VBA Seeks Congress Support
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi's Dr. Nilesh Vishwakarma has sought Congress support to consolidate anti-BJP votes. "I have received no response from Congress yet," he stated on Wednesday.
With corporators and municipal council or nagar panchayat members among the electorate, cross-voting and last-minute negotiations are likely to play a role, according to poll analysts.
Polling Details
Polling is scheduled from 8 am to 4 pm across seven booths: Dharni (43 voters), Achalpur (69), Morshi (81), Daryapur (61), Teosa-Bhatkuli (38), Amravati (95), and Chandur Railway (66). Counting of votes will take place on June 22. While the Mahayuti's numbers favor Pote, the final tally will reveal how many Congress votes hold and whether the VBA can make an impact.
