The Bharatiya Janata Party's Mahila Morcha organized a Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The protest march was aimed at highlighting the alleged failures of the state government and demanding action on various women-related issues.
Protest Against State Government
The padyatra, which began from the historic Ridge Maidan in Shimla, saw participation from hundreds of women BJP workers. They marched through the city streets, raising slogans against the Congress-led state government. The protesters accused the government of neglecting women's safety, rising prices, and unemployment.
Key Demands Raised
The women protesters submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, listing their demands. These include strict action against crimes against women, implementation of women-centric schemes, and control over inflation. They also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister over alleged corruption.
Party Leaders Lead the March
Senior BJP leaders, including state Mahila Morcha president Reeta Sharma, led the march. Sharma said the padyatra was a peaceful expression of the anger among women against the government's anti-people policies. She urged the government to listen to the voices of women and take corrective measures.
Government Response
The state government dismissed the protest as politically motivated. A government spokesperson said the Congress government has taken several initiatives for women's welfare and safety. He accused the BJP of playing politics over sensitive issues.
The Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra concluded peacefully at the Deputy Commissioner's office, where the memorandum was submitted. The BJP Mahila Morcha has announced that similar protests will be held across the state in the coming days.
