Six Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha members have moved a privilege notice against Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which they termed as 'derogatory' and 'disrespectful'.
Notice Referred to Committee of Privileges
Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan has referred the notice to the Committee of Privileges for examination, investigation, and report. The move comes amid heightened political tensions in the Upper House.
Allegations Against Kharge
The BJP MPs accused Kharge of making inappropriate comments against PM Modi during a recent parliamentary session. They argued that such remarks lower the dignity of the House and the office of the Prime Minister.
The privilege notice seeks action against Kharge for allegedly violating parliamentary norms. The Committee of Privileges will now scrutinize the matter and submit its findings.
Political Reactions
Congress leaders have defended Kharge, stating that his remarks were taken out of context. They accused the BJP of targeting opposition voices. The issue is expected to spark further debate in the Rajya Sabha.
This development adds to the ongoing friction between the ruling party and the opposition in Parliament.
