The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday hailed its massive lead in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, attributing it to the 'blessings of Mother Kali and the people of Bengal'. At 1 pm, the BJP was leading in 185 of the 294 constituencies, while the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was ahead in just 93 seats.
BJP's Tweet Credits Divine Blessings
The BJP's official Twitter handle posted a message in Hindi, roughly translating to 'Blessings of Mother Kali and the people of Bengal'. The party's surge has brought it close to the 200-seat mark, a significant milestone in the state where the TMC has been in power since 2011.
Election Trends Show BJP Dominance
As counting progressed, the BJP maintained a strong lead across multiple districts, particularly in the western and southern parts of the state. The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, managed to hold on to its strongholds in the northern and central regions but faced a tough challenge from the BJP's aggressive campaign.
Political analysts suggest that the BJP's focus on issues like corruption, law and order, and cultural identity resonated with voters. The party also benefited from a split in opposition votes in some constituencies.
Reactions from Political Leaders
BJP leaders expressed confidence in forming the next government, with several senior leaders thanking the electorate for their support. Meanwhile, TMC leaders remained defiant, claiming that the final results could still change as counting progresses.
The West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 have seen a high voter turnout, with the Election Commission ensuring smooth polling across the state. The final results are expected later today.
