BJP Suspends Ex-Minister RK Singh After Bihar Poll Win in Discipline Move
BJP suspends ex-minister RK Singh for anti-party acts

In a decisive move underscoring its zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended former Union Minister RK Singh, his wife, and two other senior leaders for engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the party. This significant action came just a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), of which the BJP is a key partner, secured a resounding victory in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.

The Suspension and Show-Cause Notice

The party officially served a suspension notice to Singh on Saturday, explicitly stating that his actions were classified as "anti-party" and "indisciplined behaviour." The communication from the BJP highlighted that the activities of the former Arrah MP had caused harm to the organization. Consequently, the party has given him a week to provide a explanation, failing which he could face expulsion.

"Shri Raj Kumar Singh Ji, Former MP, Arrah, Your activities fall under the category of anti-party and indisciplined behaviour. The party has taken this matter seriously, as it has caused harm to the organisation," the letter stated. It further added, "Therefore, as per the instructions, you are being suspended from the party, and a show-cause notice is being issued asking why you should not be expelled from the party."

Wider Action and The Political Context

The disciplinary action was not limited to RK Singh. The BJP also dispatched similar letters to MLC Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal, leading to their suspension on identical grounds. The core of the issue revolves around the Singh couple actively campaigning for their son, Saurabh Singh, who contested the Katihar assembly seat. He was a candidate for the Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), standing directly against the sitting BJP MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister, Tarkishor Prasad.

This marks the first major disciplinary step taken by the BJP since the Bihar election results were declared on Friday, signaling the party's firm commitment to maintaining internal coherence and discipline, especially after an electoral triumph.

Background: The Allegations That Preceded the Action

The suspension did not occur in a vacuum. Earlier this month, RK Singh had made serious allegations against the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He claimed the administration was involved in a massive corruption scandal worth ₹62,000 crore linked to a power project. To substantiate his claims, he had posted related documents on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Furthermore, in the run-up to the elections, Singh had been vocal in his criticism of the election process. He had urged the Election Commission to enforce the Model Code of Conduct more strictly, describing the situation as a "failure" on the part of both the poll body and the local administration. He specifically condemned the movement of large convoys of armed vehicles during the election period, labelling it a flagrant violation of democratic norms and demanding strict action against the involved officials and influential candidates.

"The Election Commission must ensure strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. This is a failure of both the Election Commission and the district administration. It is deeply concerning and unacceptable during the election period," he had stated publicly, setting the stage for the eventual confrontation with his own party.
