BJP, Sweeper Union Protest in Ludhiana Over Assault on Party Leader

Protest Outside Police Commissioner's Office

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and members of the Rashtriya Safai Karamchari Mahasangh staged a protest outside the office of the Commissioner of Police in Ludhiana on July 11, 2026. The protesters demanded action against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Nikku Bharti and his associates for allegedly assaulting BJP leader Vicky Sahota on June 18.

Allegations of Police Inaction

Raising slogans against the police, the protesters alleged that despite repeated representations, no case had been registered against the suspects. They submitted a memorandum to senior police officials, seeking legal action against the councillor and other alleged attackers.

Addressing the gathering, Sahota’s mother Nirmala Sahota claimed her son was seriously injured in the assault and sustained a fracture on his nose. She alleged that instead of booking the persons responsible, the police had registered a case against Vicky Sahota. She urged the police to take action against the accused, stating the family had been waiting for justice since the incident.

A delegation later met Additional Commissioner of Police Rupinder Singh and submitted its demands. He assured the delegation that the complaint would be examined and appropriate action would be taken after considering all the facts.
